Middlemarch

I read Middlemarch for school over the past four weeks, and I have to say, I really like it. IN fact, I liked it so much that I want it for my birthday. It's one of those 800 pagers that take a while to get through, but about 50 pages a day is easy. To get a good idea of what's going on, I recommend watching the movie first (you can get it at the library!) to get the overall picture because they did a good job with it and it's pretty close to the book. Here's a preview section:

"Oh, you dear good father!" cried Mary, putting her hands round her father's neck, while he bent his head placidly, willing to be caressed. "I wonder if any other girl thinks her father the best man in the world!"

"Nonsense, child; you'll think your husband better."

"Impossible," said Mary, relapsing into her usual tone; "husbands are an inferior class of men, who require keeping in order."

Anna of Byzantium

I read this really cool book about this girl who's growing up to be the empress of Byzantium. Everything is fine and dandy in her life until her little brother is born. Even though her brother was born, she is still heir to the throne. That is, until a little twist comes in the book and everything in her life is turned upside down when she proves that she's not her grandmother's puppet. I recommend it as a really good read.
